To the editor:
The voters in the Liberty area have a unique opportunity to elect as our area school board member an individual that is well qualified for the position. Brian Swords is an educator currently serving as the Director of the Tri-County Tech Easley campus. His education, his work in the technical education system, and his interaction with area high schools and industry, makes Brian Swords the best qualified candidate for this seat. His experience will enable him to formulate and evaluate school board policy effectively. Brian will be an excellent school board member that will represent our entire county well. His only agenda will be to maximize educational opportunities for our students. He will not be an agent of any special interest group or organization.
Brian is a product of the Liberty community and its schools. He has earned a Bachelors Degree from Southern Wesleyan University, and a Masters and Doctorate degree from Clemson University. He has extensive budget experience and has a strong record of community service. Brian is also a committed Christian that “walks the walk”.
The latest evaluation of the Pickens County School District by the accreditation association, AdvanceEd found the school district’s board of trustees to be in violation of several core accreditation principles. It is certainly within the best interests of all residents in Pickens County to correct these deficiencies immediately. Our Pickens County School Board is one of the few school boards in South Carolina to be judged as dysfunctional. Advance Ed and its predecessors have evaluated schools for over a hundred years and those who say their results are not important either have their heads in the sand or simply do not care about Pickens County students and teachers. We can improve education in Pickens County by electing qualified and capable school board members. Liberty area voters, let’s elect Brian Swords, a qualified and capable leader.
