PICKENS — The Pickens County Sheriff’s Office arrested James Christopher Townsend on Wednesday afternoon following an anonymous tip that he was at a residence in the Easley community.

Deputies located Townsend around 12:45 p.m. at a residence on Bakerville Road at which time he was taken into custody without incident.

Efforts to locate Townsend have been ongoing since the discovery of his escape by Stockade authorities following an evening count of all inmates on July 3. Townsend was serving a sentence for failure to pay child support and had been held at the Stockade since June 2. The Pickens County Stockade is located at #186 Prison Camp Road in Pickens.

Townsend was charged Wednesday with escape and will remain in the Detention Facility located at the Pickens County Sheriff’s Office pending an appearance before a Pickens County Magistrate.

In addition, Pickens County has been notified by Greenville County authorities of a pending charge for Grand Larceny from their jurisdiction. Townsend will appear before Greenville authorities to answer for that charge at an undetermined date and time.
