EASLEY – A 21-year-old Easley man has been charged with attempted murder after a verbal confrontation with another man turned physical.

Jeremy Lee Basquette, of 400 Thornbury Ridge, was arrested around 8 p.m. Wednesday after he went to Cannon Hospital in Pickens seeking treatment for a laceration to the back of his head.

According to the Pickens County Sheriff’s Office, Basquette and Phillip Javin Valentine, 24, of Liberty, were at 1506 Robert P. Jeanes Road in Easley when a verbal confrontation led to Basquette shooting Valentine in the leg.

Valentine drove himself to Cannon Hospital for treatment, according to the PCSO. The two men did not know one another but were at the residence visiting other people who were there.

Basquette was charged with attempted murder and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime. Bond has not been set.
