EASLEY – One game into region play, a disastrous losing streak shows no signs of letting up for the Green Wave.
The Easley High School football team dropped its fourth straight game to Laurens on Friday by a score of 34-16. The Green Wave are now just 1-4 on the season with six key region games remaining.
Easley continued to be plagued by offensive woes Friday against Laurens, as the Green Wave scored just three points in the first three quarters.
That allowed Laurens to jump out to a commanding 28-3 lead heading into the fourth.
In the fourth, however, Easley found some life on offense.
After a long drive, Jackson Matthews punched in Easley’s first touchdown of the night, narrowing the margin to 28-10. Laurens was quick to snuff out any attempt at an Easley comeback, however, as they put together a quick scoring drive to negate Easley’s touchdown.
Matthews added another six points for Easley on a fumble recovery score late in the fourth quarter.
Matthews led the Green Wave offense with 83 yards and a touchdown on 17 carries. Easley’s CJ Fuller also saw a little bit of success running the ball, rushing for 75 yards on 11 attempts. Easley’s big play receiver Deandre Gamble recorded 51 total yards of offense on just three touches.
Easley quarterbacks combined for a mere 57 total yards passing.
The Green Wave will not have long to dwell on its second straight road loss. Easley will pack up and travel to TL Hanna this Friday in the team’s second region game of the season.
The road ahead may be even more challenging for a Green Wave team struggling to score points. Easley will be traveling for three of its next four contests, and will face away games at Woodmont and Hillcrest before the season comes to a close.
Fridays game at Hanna is set to kickoff at 7:30 p.m.
