EASLEY — Employees of YH America South Carolina, LLC, along with family members and friends, held a tree planting celebration at the plant on Gillespie Drive Saturday as part of parent Yokohama Rubber Co. Ltd.’s Forever Forest Project.
Around 2,500 trees of 3 varieties will be planted, including Red Maple, River Birch and Fringetree. The trees will be planted according to the method designed by Dr. Akira Miyawaki, a world-renowned ecologist noted for his work in reforestation and a professor emeritus at Yokohama National University. He has guided more than 1,700 tree-planting activities around the world, resulting in the planting of 40 million trees. He has additionally led the successful reforestation efforts of tropical rainforests in Malaysia, Borneo and Japan.
Yokohama’s Forever Forest Project has a goal of planting 500,000 trees at domestic and overseas production sites in anticipation of the company’s 100th anniversary in 2017.
