EASLEY — Easley’s Naval Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (NJROTC) Orienteering team competed at McDowell High School NJROTC unit Orienteering meet held at Camp Bud Schiele on March 15 against 10 other JROTC units.
With Easley’s team still pumped up from placing fourth at the National Orienteering competition last weekend, they were ready to compete. This competition offered a four cadet Score O course which covered the whole 1100 acres.
In addition there was an Orange course (5km), Yellow course (4km), and a White course (3km). Each unit could enter up to 24 cadets. Easley’s Orienteering coach, Chief Mark Stauder entered 13 cadets, they were Justin Hill, Eric Crenshaw, Joey Sigler, Freddy Juarez, Tyler Burton, Ryan Jeanes, Brenda Lopez-Perez, Hunter Nix, Matthew West, Colton Sheriff, Chase Wengerd, Nicholas Lewis and Flood Horne.
“These 13 cadets were enough for Easley’s team to conquer this event and bring home the winning trophy,” Stauder stated. This was all unfamiliar territory for them and they just about had a clean sweep of all of the awards.”
The Score O team took first place, the Orange course took first and second place awards, the Yellow course took first and third place awards and the white course took the second place award which all added up to first place overall.
