PICKENS — The Peter T. Villano Council 9576 of the Knights of Columbus – Pickens recently presented a check in the amount of $1,828 to the Pickens County Career and Technology Center for their STEEP program.
The Secondary Transition Education & Employability Program is a four year program that prepares special needs students for life and entry level employment within our community and services young adults in grades 9 through 12.
Council members collected the funds through their Operation H.O.P.E. campaign for 2013. Operation H.O.P.E. (Helping Other People Everyday) has been a Knights’ Project for the past 37 years throughout the state of South Carolina.
Volunteers in bright yellow vests pass out Tootsie Rolls seeking donations from the public. Local businesses also participate through direct contributions.
Each year one or more local organizations are chosen for financial grants.
