PICKENS — The Parenting Place held its 18th annual Ride for the Child June 21 and the results are in on the fundraiser for the nonprofit.

“We have to thank everyone who came out and helped raise money or donated items first off,” said Amy Reese of The Parenting Place. “We raised $10,080 which is going to help some needy families and children in Pickens County. Some of the winners of the hands in the poker run actually turned around and donated part of their winnings back. It was just a great day and event.”

The funds go toward items which are not covered by grants to the nonprofit, which are allotted for specific purposes. Funds raised through events like Ride for the Child allow the organization a little more flexibility and will go toward helping cover shortfalls in other areas such as hygiene products, gasoline, and even baby supplies.

According to Reese, the event was a success because of so many people who chose to volunteer or assist in organizing the event.

“We had so much help from the folks at Freedom Biker Church that was priceless,” Reese said. “I can’t even put a price on what their help in organizing the poker run would be worth. It went so smoothly and everyone had a great time because of their help.”

The Parenting Place also took the opportunity to highlight the efforts of one of its long-time supporters the day of the event as well.

“Chuck Baker has been helping raise money for The Parenting Place for over ten years,” Reese said. “He’s raised thousands of dollars himself over the years and has always been there to help. Chuck really cares about this community and we could use more like him.”
