EASLEY — Hosting its first ever Community Tailgate in the home-opener for the Green Wave, Easley returned home after a road win over cross-county rival Pickens to face state powerhouse Daniel, only to come up short 35-6.

The defensive effort was there for a half as the ball control Lions offense was limited early.

Easley’s Green Wave was in the game with the ground-powered Daniel Lions until a third quarter burst by the visiting team opened the game up and gave Easley a lead it couldn’t overcome. Daniel ripped off 21 unanswered points in the third quarter following a TD by Easley that closed the gap to 14-6.

Daniel’s highly touted RB Austin Barnes rushed for 71 yards in the second quarter alone to lead the Lions ground game. Dalton Black of Easley was 18-34 for 155 yards passing to keep the Green Wave in the game.

Daniel (2-0) will host Emerald, also unbeaten on the season with wins over Belton-Honea Path and rival Ninety Six, Sept. 5. Easley (1-1) will take a short road trip to face the Seneca Bobcats, 1-0 on the year after an opening win over Greenville 49-34.
