PENDLETON — The Blue Flame of Pickens was on a short road trip to Pendleton to face the Bulldogs and in the end came up short in its bid to even their record to 1-1, instead falling to 0-2 after a tight ballgame where momentum seemed to be everything.

On a sod field constantly under repair, it looked early as if the Blue Flame would barbecue the Bulldogs offense with a strong defensive performance but mistakes would be Pickens’ undoing as Pendleton would capitalize.

Offensively throughout the first half, Pickens’ size seemed to be wearing down the defensive front of Pendleton but in the end field conditions combined with the Bulldogs’ speed would take their toll.

It was a defensive struggle throughout the night and when the time expired, Pendleton was able to hold onto a slim 20-19 lead for the win.

Things won’t get any easier Sept. 5 when Pickens travels to Liberty, 1-0 on the season following a come from behind win over Crescent 21-14.
