PIEDMONT — From the opening kickoff until the final horn, it was a Hurricane warning over Anderson County as Wren blasted visiting Woodmont in a 62-0 blowout.
Nathaniel Ekwere took the opening kickoff 98 yards to open the scoring and it was downhill from there.
Wren used three consecutive turnovers by Woodmont in the first half to go into the locker room with a 56-0 lead and the game well in hand.
Wren’s QB Kelly Bryant, an early signee with the Clemson Tigers, accounted for scores through the air and on the ground including a 9 yard TD pass to Andrew Richardson and a 40-yarder to Bailey Rogers.
Wren couldn’t have performed better on both sides of the ball to open play in 2014 with the defense pitching a shutout and the offense almost all but unstoppable as they moved the ball up and down the field at will during the first half.
Jeff Tate’s Golden Hurricanes will be at home once again Friday as they host Anderson County’s T. L. Hanna.
The Yellow Jackets are hoping to rebound following a 50-0 loss to state powerhouse Byrnes, but with Bryant and the Wren offense there might not be much relief in sight.
