PICKENS COUNTY – Law enforcement officials have yet to rule out a connection between a bank robbery in Easley and a bomb threat at the Pickens County Courthouse two weeks ago.

“The administrative assistant at the Pickens County Courthouse received a bomb threat over the phone on Friday, Nov. 22 at approximately 9 a.m.,” said Capt. Keith Galloway of the Pickens County Sheriff’s Office. “We took immediate action and evacuated the courthouse and responded along with Pickens City Police to the courthouse and enlisted the assistance of Anderson County, Anderson City, and Oconee County bomb units. It took about two hours to clear the building.”

According to the officials at the Easley Police Department, the TD bank in Easley was robbed at gun point approximately 28 minutes later.

“We received the call at 9:28 a.m. and have not ruled out a connection between the bomb threat in Pickens and the bank robbery in Easley,” said Maj. Tim Tollison of the Easley Police Department. “The connection is possible and this kind of thing has been done before where somebody would try and avert us across town, and in light of that, we are not ruling out a connection.”

Tollison said no connection has been confirmed between the two incidents as of yet.

“At this time, we have made no connection between the bomb threat at the Pickens County Courthouse and to the bank robbery here in Easley,” he said. “The timing is odd but there could have been circumstances involving the courthouse alone that day as to why a bomb threat was made.”

The Pickens County Sheriff’s Office has also yet to rule out a connection between the two incidents.

“We are not ruling out a connection there,” Galloway said. “But we have not confirmed a connection as of yet either. We are still in the investigation process.”
