I am writing to encourage your support of Dr. Brian Swords for Pickens County School Board. He is running for the District 4 (Liberty) seat that was recently vacated. The election is set for April 1, 2014.
Brian and I are both participants in the 2014 Class of Leadership South Carolina (LSC). Brian’s involvement in the community and dedication to education in Pickens County will be a strength for his service on the board. As a member of LSC, I have been impressed with the dedication Brian has demonstrated through his involvement in the Readers 2 Leaders project sponsored by Leadership SC. His effort to have The School District of Pickens County benefit from this opportunity demonstrates his commitment to the community, teachers, and students he seeks to serve.
Brian has demonstrated his commitment to education in Pickens County by serving as Campus Director at the Easley Campus of Tri-County Tech, where he works with students, faculty, and the community and plays an instrumental role in economic development. He serves as a student mentor and advisor, and has just finished overseeing a revision to the intake process at all campuses for Tri-County that resulted in a substantial improvement in retention for the college. In addition to his service to Tri-County, Brian also serves as an adjunct professor at Southern Wesleyan University, where he teaches courses in their graduate program in Education.
Furthermore, Dr. Swords is one of the founding board members and current chairman of the Junior Leadership Pickens County program. The program takes 20 high school juniors each year and has played a pivotal role in getting students accepted to colleges and universities. Dr. Swords has served as Chairman of the Easley Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, a member of the Pickens County Business/Education Alliance, a member of the Pickens County Career Center Advisory Board, and former President of the South Carolina Association of Continuing Education.
Make your voice heard by voting on April 1. I strongly encourage you to join me in supporting Dr. Brian Swords for Pickens County School Board on April 1.
