PICKENS — The Piranhas swim team at the Pickens YMCA will become a sanctioned swim club in USA swimming.
As the national governing body for the sport of swimming in the United States, USA Swimming promotes the culture of swimming by creating opportunities for swimmers and coaches of all backgrounds to participate and advance in the sport through clubs, events and education.
USA Swimming is responsible for selection and training of teams for the national championships and international competition, including the Olympic Games. The organization builds the sport through its core objectives of “build the base,” “promote the sport” and “achieve competitive success.”
“Joining USA swimming allows our swimmers to compete against some of the best swimmers in the state,” Head Coach Larry McMahan said. “That makes us all better swimmers.”
Aquatics Director Brandon Callihan said the process should be complete by the beginning of the fall. The Piranhas swim team will retain its membership in the Carolina Youth Swim League.
