CLEMSON — The Utsey Chamber Music Series kicks off its 2014-2015 season with the Dover Quartet at a brand-new start time of 7:30 p.m. Sept. 9, at Clemson University’s Brooks Center for the Performing Arts.

The Dover Quartet catapulted to international stardom following its sweep of the 2013 Banff International String Quartet Competition, becoming one of the most in-demand ensembles in the world. In 2013-2014, the quartet became the first-ever quartet-in-residence for the venerated Curtis Institute of Music.

During the 2014-2015 season, the Dover Quartet will perform more than 100 concerts throughout the United States, Canada, South America and Europe. Highlights include concerts for The Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C.; Schneider Concerts in New York City; and Wigmore Hall in London.

For this show, the quartet will perform Haydn’s Quartet in G Major, Shostakovich’s String Quartet No. 7 and Dvořák’s Quartet in C Major.

The musicians are dedicated to sharing their music with underserved communities and are active in Music for Food, an initiative to help musicians fight hunger in their home communities. In honor of their cause, the Brooks Center will collect donations of canned food in the lobby to be provided to Clemson Community Care.

As part of the Lillian and Robert Utsey Chamber Music Series, the performance is free and no ticket is required.
