CENTRAL — The D.W. Daniel High School Band Program has received the 2014 Outstanding Performance Award, the S.C. Band Directors Association announced.
The Outstanding Performance Award (OPA) is the highest, most prestigious award given by the SCBDA and is awarded based solely on the proven excellence of a comprehensive band program.
Bands awarded this recognition must earn high scores in the SCBDA’s marching band competition, concert band festival, solo and ensemble festival and region/all-state bands. Only nine other 3A schools in South Carolina earned this recognition alongside Daniel High School.
The Daniel High School Band Program is a comprehensive program consisting of the marching band (“The Lion’s Pride Marching Band”), the DHS Symphonic Wind Ensemble, Jazz Ensemble, Guard program, DHS Percussion Ensemble, and various chamber groups. The Daniel Band program is under the direction of Nathan Whitworth.
