CENTRAL — Three Southern Wesleyan women’s basketball players were named to the Southern States All-Academic team and Michelle Anaya was also named an NCCAA Scholar Athlete. Anaya was joined by Chelsie Waters and Shelby Gilbert on the SSAC team.
Anaya, one of two seniors on the team, has posted a 3.41 GPA over her time at Southern Wesleyan and is on track to graduate with a degree in Physical Education. She becomes the 15th honoree this year for SWU.
Waters (Warner Robins, Ga.) has a 3.77 GPA as she completes her sophomore season and classmate Shelby Gilbert has a 3.56 GPA. Both players were only eligible for the SSAC award based on classification.
To be eligible for the NCCAA Scholar Athlete award an athlete must possess at least a 3.40 GPA and be a junior academically with at least one year completed at their current school.
To be eligible for the SSAC All-Academic team an athlete must be at least a sophomore academically with a 3.25 GPA or higher and have complete at least one year at their current school.
