EASLEY — The Easley High School softball team posted victories over T.L. Hanna and Westside last week to wrap up the regular season with a 16-8 overall record and 11-3 mark in Region 1-AAAA.

Easley also lost to region champion Laurens last week, 6-2.

It is the most victories in a season for the Lady Green Wave team since the 2008 team finished with a 24-5 record. This year’s team did set a school record for region victories in a season with 11, eclipsing the record of nine set in 2005.

Easley will participate in the District IV-AAAA state playoffs beginning Thursday. The Lady Green Wave will play its first game at home against the top fifth-place team in the upperstate at a time to be announced later. The double-elimination tournament continues Saturday. The site will be determined by seeding in the bracket.

The winner of the district tournament advances to the upper state round that begins May 10.

Laurens 6, Easley 2

Region rivals met for the third time, and with the same result, as the Lady Raiders scored five unearned runs for the win. Pitcher Jade Hendricks pitched well enough to win, but lost for the second time to Laurens. Hendricks scattered seven hits, but fell to 4-2 in the region.

Laurens scored two runs in each of the first two innings for a 4-1. Easley got on the board when Kelsey Garrett doubled to score Brittany Kimbrough, who had walked.

Laurens added single runs in the fifth and sixth innings. But Easley didn’t go quietly. The Lady Green Wave just couldn’t get the timely hit. Easley had nine runners in scoring position in the first six innings, and only got one of them home.

The Lady Green Wave finally broke through in the seventh, but still left two runners in scoring position. With one out, Garrett and Robin Bradley singled. Garrett scored on a double by Mattison Trammell, but a pair of strikeouts ended the threat and the game.

Easley 11, T.L. Hanna 1

After giving up doubles to two of the first four batters, Easley pitcher Brittany Kimbrough slammed the door on the Lady Yellow Jackets. Kimbrough struck out 11 batters (including the first seven outs) and got plenty of offensive support to beat Hanna.

After falling behind 1-0, Easley took the lead for good with a pair of runs in the second. Robin Bradley and Mattison Trammell hit consecutive singles. Hannah Gravely loaded the bases with a bunt. Bradley scored on a wild pitch and Trammell came home on a single by Taylor Waldrop.

The Lady Green Wave pushed four more runs home in the third. Boo Vaughn walked and Brittany Kimbrough singled, and both scored on a double by Kelsey Garrett. A double by Trammell scored Garrett, and Trammell scored on a sacrifice bunt by Gravely.

Easley ended the game with five runs in the fifth — all with two outs. Trammell walked and Gravely was hit by a pitch. They scored on a triple by Isabel Durham. Another triple by Taylor Waldrop scored Durham. Taylor Rothrock walked and Boo Vaughn hit a two-run double.

Easley 12, Westside 1

Senior Brittany Kimbrough won her final regular-season appearance in the circle for the Lady Green Wave, the 37th of her career. Fellow senior Boo Vaughn had a triple and double, with three runs batted in, and senior Taylor Rothrock scored a run and threw out a runner at home from right field.

Easley scored two runs in the first inning as Vaughn doubled and Robin Bradley walked. Both would score on wild pitches. In the second, Taylor Waldrop walked and Vaughn singled, and both scored on a single by Kimbrough.

The Lady Rams allowed just one base runner over the next three innings to stay close, but Easley plated eight runs in the sixth to end the game.

Consecutive singles by Hannah Gravely, Isabel Durham and Jade Hendricks scored one run, and a fielder’s choice by Rothrock loaded the bases. Vaughn’s eighth triple of her career drove in three runs. Kimbrough was hit by a pitch and Kelsey Garrett reached on an error to score a run. Bradley was hit by a pitch to load the bases. A fielder’s choice that also included an error scored two more runs. A double by Durham scored two runs to end the game.
