PICKENS COUNTY — Residents in six of the seven towns in Pickens County will be headed to the polls election day to determine several local leaders.

Among the hottest races are for mayor of Liberty and mayor of Central.

It’s been four years since former Liberty mayor Eddie Hughes lost to current mayor Brian Deese, and now the two will go head to head again.

And in Central, Mayor Mac Martin is facing opposition from Councilman David Donald.

Some city council seats in Pickens, Liberty, Easley, Central, Norris and Six Mile are also up for grabs, with competition in a few races.

There are three seats to fill on Pickens City Council, and there are five candidates vying for those seats.

Incumbents Jason Cassell and Joe Durham are seeking re-election, and Preston Bruce, Carlton Holley Jr. and Patrick Lark are also running for a seat.

Current council member Connie Bowers is not seeking re-election, according to Registration and Elections data.

In Liberty, incumbent Dwight Yates, who represents Ward 1, faces opposition from Ellen Berry Sells, who has run previously.

Walt McJunkin and Rick Clark, who are currently serving on Liberty City Council are running unopposed.

Three seats on Easley City Council are up for grabs, and all three incumbents are seeking re-election, according to officials with the county Registration and Elections Commission.

Libby Dodson, who represents Ward 2, Kim Valentin, who represents Ward 4, and Dave Watson, who represents Ward 6 are all running unopposed.

There will be competition, however, in the race for a seat on the Combined Utilities Commission.

Incumbent Dick Gettys will face challenger Dick Leopard for the position.

In Six Mile, there are two seats on the line, with Brenda Rippy, V. Aaron Smith and Roy Stoddard running for them.

In Central, there are seven candidates running for three seats on council, including Paige Bowers, Benji Cumbie, Ken Dill, Joe Moss, Wallace Palmer, Tracey Reynolds and Jerry Turner.

Norris has two council seats up for grabs, and two people are running for those seats – Lawrence McClure and Wendell Melton.

Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 3
