PICKENS — An 86-year-old Pickens man was victimized last Wednesday by men impersonating people that work for the U.S. Social Security Administration, according to an incident reported filed with the Sheriff’s Office.
The man, who lives on Pumpkintown Highway, reported that $500 was taken from his wallet during the incident, according to the report.
The victim said two men came to his home saying they were from the Social Security department and that they needed to take his picture, the report stated.
The men then put a white canvas sheet in front of the victim while inside the residence in order to take the picture, according to the report.
The victim said that was when one of the men went into the bedroom and took $500 from his wallet, which he reported was underneath the pillow on his bed, the report stated.
The two men then left with a third man in a two-door-white car, the victim reported.
The victim described the suspects as white males but was unable to give any other information about them or the vehicle.
Capt. Dewey Smith with the Pickens County Sheriff’s Office urges the public to be on the lookout for this type of scam.
If anyone has information about this incident, they can call the Sheriff’s Office at 898-5500.
