EASLEY—Two teams with 0-2 records faced each other Saturday night in the Big League World Series, both looking to return to their winning ways.

The host team, S.C. District One, looked more like the host teams that won three four BLWS titles from 2003-2006, defeating Florida 13-0 in six innings.

Winning pitcher Jacob Long had a complete game, allowing just four hits and striking out nine. He did not give up a base-on-balls in the game.

S.C. District One had no fielding errors in the game, after committing five in an embarrassing loss to Louisiana earlier in the week.

The host team got on the board in the top of the second inning. Brody Greer singled, then stole second. He was knocked in by a single by Jeremy Beachen.

S.C. District One opened things up a bit in the top of the third inning. Hunter Burton hit an inside-the-park home run to start things off for the host team.

Joey Pankake then hit a triple and scored on a throwing error. Clay Tucker doubled, and Brandon Smith came in to pinch-run for Tucker. Brody Greer walked, and Jordan McNeely singled to load the bases. All three runners advanced on a wild pitch, with Smith scoring to give S.C. District One a 4-0 lead. Later, Greer scored on a passed ball, giving the host team a 5-0 lead going into the fourth inning.

In the top of the fourth inning, S.C. District One added two more runs. Heath Burton walked, then stole second base. Burton reached third on a pop fly, then came home when Clay Tucker struck out, but reached first base on a throwing error. Tucker moved to second on when Brody Greer walked. Tucker advanced to third base on a wild pitch, then scored on a sacrifice fly. The host team led 7-0 after four innings.

In the top of the fifth, Jaren Sustar walked, and Justin Smith came in as his pinch-runner. Heath Burton then walked, giving District One runners at first and second. Joey Pankake then hit a triple to knock in two more runs, and give the host team a 9-0 lead.

In the top of the sixth inning, Jordan McNeely was walked, then he stole second base. Jeremy Beachem then singled, knocking McNeely in for the host team’s 10th run.

Jaren Sustar reached on a base-on-balls, and Brandon Smith singled to load the bases. Matt Whitworth then singled and two runners came in to improve District One’s lead to 12-0. Later in the inning, Joey Pankake hit a sacrifice fly to drive Brandon Smith in for the final run for the host team.

Florida was not able to score in the bottom of the sixth, and the game ended via the 10-run rule.

Florida, 0-3, a team that scored 30 runs in five games in the Southeast Regional, still has yet to score a run in the Big League World Series. Florida plays Illinois, 0-3, Monday afternoon.

S.C. District One, 1-2, completes its play in the 2009 Big League World Series, with a game against Pennsylvania Sunday night.
