PICKENS COUNTY—Police have apprehended Joshua Sanchez after he escaped from prison last week.

According to Assistant Pickens County Sheriff Tim Morgan, Sanchez stole a truck (2011 Chevrolet Silverado Z71) while on a work detail at Christian Road Recycling Center in Central. He then fled authorities.

The truck was found a couple of hours later in a motel parking lot.

The 26-year old escaped on Saturday, and was captured on Monday night.

“(He) was taken into custody without incident about 7:00 p.m. (Monday) evening by Sheriff’s deputies and Easley Police,” said Morgan.

Morgan says police acquired information about Sanchez while he was on the loose.

“We had developed information about his whereabouts and made a traffic stop in the city of Easley (NE Main Street) where he was arrested,” said Morgan.

The prisoner was housed at the county prison, and has been returned.

“We have charged him with auto theft, and the prison officials have charged him with escape,” said Morgan.
