EASLEY – A Pickens man is charged with murder after a weekend argument that turned deadly.

Dwight Allen Childress, 21, of 217 Childress Road, Pickens is in jail after police say he shot and killed 27-year-old Jessie Garren Bailey of 113 Doris St. in Easley.

Bailey was shot in the chest and arm, Pickens County Coroner Kandy Kelley said.

The shooting happened around 11:15 p.m. on Saturday at 111 Pineapple St. in Easley, and Bailey was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Kelley.

Arrest warrants state Childress confessed to police that he shot Bailey. Police also took statements from witnesses at the scene who saw the shooting, according to reports.

When police arrived, they found Bailey lying on the floor suffering from gunshot wounds, according to the incident report.

Police later stated that Bailey and Childress had gotten into an argument over Bailey’s ex-girlfriend.

Easley Police are investigating the incident further.

Bailey’s death comes just days after a Liberty man was shot and killed in his residence.

Martin “Marty” Dewayne Mauldin, of 168 Porter Road, Liberty, was pronounced dead at Greenville Memorial Hospital Wednesday night after being shot in the chest, Kelley said.

Randall David Youngblood II, of 141 Emily Lane, Liberty is charged with Mauldin’s murder.

Youngblood was arrested Thursday and is being held at the County Detention Center.

Investigators with the Pickens County Sheriff’s Office say that the shooting resulted from an argument earlier in the day that escalated that evening.

The Sheriff’s Office is still investigating Mauldin’s death.
