PICKENS COUNTY—A single-vehicle crash Wednesday night claimed the lives of two on Raines Road in Pickens County.

According to South Carolina Highway Patrol officials, a 1997 SUV ran off the road at about 9:11 p.m., ejecting and killing two passengers.

Both riders were not wearing seat belts and were pronounced dead at the scene.

“(The SUV) was heading east on Raines Road,” said Lance Corporal Bill Rhyne. “(The vehicle) ran off the left side of the road, (crossing the centerline) then over-corrected, crossing back over and running off the right side of the road. (The vehicle) then overturned, ejecting both occupants.”

Names had not been released as of Thursday morning.
