Michelle Bryant, a 1992 SWU graduate, will travel to Mozambique in a few weeks to work with children of missionaries during the African Area Missions Retreat, organized by Global Partners, a missions organization within The Wesleyan Church.

Bryant, a 1992 graduate of Southern Wesleyan University, grew up on the mission field and has taken several mission trips, including three trips to Haiti following their devastating 2010 earthquake. She has also taken teams to Puerto Rico, where her parents, Bob and Barbara Broome, served as missionaries. Bryant looks forward to pouring out her heart to children in the same way they touch her life as a children’s pastor at United Wesleyan Church in Easley.

Bryant sees this as more than a call to be a babysitter.

“I look back at my life and ask why I’ve had all those experiences. God has prepared me for such a time as this. I hope the kids can feel loved and know how valuable they are.”

Bryant looks forward to relating her experiences as she spends time with children of other missionaries. She recalls challenges encountered spending time in Puerto Rico and Brazil, then returning to the United States as a teenager and adjusting to American life.

“You’re in a big old fishbowl. You have language issues, and are away from family members, so you adopt other missionaries as ‘Aunts’ and ‘Uncles’,” said Bryant, adding that she is blessed to have had so many amazing people touch her life. She accepted Christ as savior when she was a young child and felt a call into the ministry when she was 12.

“I was a typical teen. I had ups and downs, then moved to the United States. I would say ‘Okay, God, what do you want me to do?’, but I always felt the call of God. I knew He wanted me to work with people and didn’t know where. I am open to His leading and have been following His call all of my life,” she said.

For details, contact Bryant by emailing michbry@bellsouth.net or call (864) 843-0933.

Southern Wesleyan University is a Christ-centered, student-focused learning community devoted to transforming lives by challenging students to be dedicated scholars and servant-leaders who impact the world for Christ.
