Spring sports underway at Easley High School

The spring season for Easley High School athletics has begun and includes boys’ tennis, boys and girls’ track and field, varsity and JV baseball, varsity and JV softball, boys and girls’ soccer, and boys’ varsity and JV golf.

EASLEY – The spring season for Easley High School athletics has begun and includes boys’ tennis, boys and girls’ track and field, varsity and JV baseball, varsity and JV softball, boys and girls’ soccer, and boys’ varsity and JV golf.

“So far, the spring sports season has been really difficult due to the bad weather and the large number of games that have been postponed and rescheduled,” said Athletic Director, Chris Carter. “We hope that as we get closer to the middle of March the weather will improve and we will be able to play on a more consistent basis.”

As a former professional baseball player, Carter keeps a close eye on the Green Wave hardball squad.

“I have been really impressed so far with the depth of our pitching staff,” Carter said. “Coach Bert Owens has done a tremendous job and our pitchers seem to be very polished for this time of the year. We have a number of very good arms and guys that throw a lot of strikes and so far our defense has made the routine plays and we’ve swung the bat pretty well. “

Carter said that he believes the Green Wave will have a real competitive year in baseball, and with 13 spring sports in action, he anticipates a hectic spring schedule.

“Right now, with this being the first time that we have had spring sports events on campus, it has been difficult,” Carter said. “It has been difficult to gauge the traffic patterns and where to park and where to put your ticket takers, but all of these things are wonderful problems to have simply because we are so excited about having our own facilities on campus.”

For the first time in the history of Easley High School, all of the facilities for spring sports are on campus.

“It is so much more convenient for us as administrators and teachers and even for the kids,” Carter said. “It makes it so much easier to have your fields on campus, and especially for the parents of kids that play the on JV teams. They no longer have to pick them up at the high school and take them to Alice Field or to West End Elementary School. Everything is right here.”

According to Carter, it has been refreshing to have all of these activities in one location.

“To be able to watch a baseball game and keep an eye on a softball game at the same time is very refreshing,” Carter said. “You can catch a little track and even catch a little soccer on the same night and in the same location. I use to go crazy trying to drive to all of the different sites to see the kids play.”

Wil Hartsell became the first Green Wave ballplayer to hit a homerun at the new field, and Taylor Jones became the first Green Wave softball player to hit a homerun at the new softball complex.
