Businessman, philanthropist, community servant Mac Lawton passes away

EASLEY — James McCrorey “Mac” Lawton, 65, of 108 Fairfield Ct., husband of Patty Parker Lawton, passed away Sunday, January 13, 2013 at his home.

Born December 23, 1947 in Greenville County, Mac was son of the late Francis Asbury and Caroline McCrorey Lawton. After graduating Clemson in 1968, he served in the US Navy during Vietnam. For the past twenty six years he and his brother have owned and operated Dixie Lumber Company in Easley. Mac was a community leader and visionary who founded the 567 Club for Boys, The Ride for M.A.C. (Mission Action Challenge) and was recently awarded the Order of the Silver Crescent. He was a devout Christian and member of Easley First Baptist Church where he sang in the choir and taught Sunday school.

In addition to his wife of forty three years, he is survived by his sons, Crorey Lawton and wife Kathe, and Parker Lawton and wife Katie; his daughter, Caroline Lawton; his brothers, Chip Lawton, Oregon Lawton and C.E. Lawton; his sisters, Kay Burrell, Beth Ledford and Nelle Cox; his grandchildren, Molly Lawton, Riley Claire Lawton and Marco Beltram and wife Brittany, and his great-grandchildren, Remi Beltram and Gabi Beltram.

Memorial services will be conducted at 4:00 PM Thursday, January 17, 2013 at Easley First Baptist Church with Dr. John Adams and Rev. Reid Lehman officiating. Burial will be private.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM Wednesday at Robinson Funeral Home-Powdersville Road.

The family is at the home.

Honorary escort will be the 567 Club members past and present.

Memorial contributions may be made to Easley First Baptist Church Building Fund, 300 East First Ave., Easley, SC 29640, to Baptist Easley Hospital Foundation, PO Box 1988, Easley, SC 29641 or to the charity of your choice.
