PICKENS COUNTY—The Pickens County Cancer Association (PCCA) appeared before the Easley City Council Monday, July 23 to request approval for their annual two-day event.
Pig Pickin’ for the PCCA is scheduled for April 5-6 2013 at Old Market Square in Easley.
The event will feature All-You-Can-Eat Wings on Friday and All-You-Can-Eat BBQ on Saturday and is sanctioned by the South Carolina Barbeque Association.
The fundraising event will also have live bands, rides, and food vendors.
“We will be raising money for the Association to help our cancer clients in Pickens County,” said Executive Director of the PCCA, Cynthia L. Smoak
The Pickens County Cancer Association’s mission is to improve the quality of life of cancer patients and their families through financial, educational, and emotional assistance as well as offer cancer awareness and prevention programs/materials to the public of Pickens County.
“It is our goal that we will receive further support from grants and the Pickens County general public. We would like to eradicate the disease, however, that may not happen in the forefront, but as we wait for the cure, we need to support our clients as much as we can to beat this disease,” said Smoak
The organization relies solely upon donations from the public, grants, and fundraisers.
Fundraisers and events such as Pig Pickin’ for the PCCA will provide a source of entertainment for the residents of Pickens County as well as a valuable resource to raise money for their cause.
“The event will have vendors come in from all over the state to compete for points towards the South Carolina Barbeque Association Title. We will also have vendors selling ice cream, smoothies, and events for the kids to enjoy along with live music both Friday and Saturday,” said Smoak. “All of these bands and musicians have donated their time to our event and we are very thankful for that.”
The PCCA will also hold several fundraising events this year including their annual golf tournament at the Pickens Country Club on September 21.
A lunch will be served at noon and Tee Off is at 1pm-Captain’s Choice.
The PCCA is currently accepting sponsorships, $ 100 Hole Sponsor, $250 Tent Sponsor and $1000 Event Sponsor.
