PICKENS COUNTY—Two children are dead and an adult remains in life-threatening condition after a shooting early Tuesday morning in Dacusville.

Pickens County Sheriff’s Office officials say Suzanna Brown Simpson, 34, opened fire on her family, including her two young children.

The three gunshot victims Sawyer Russell Simpson, 5, Carly Ashelyn Simpson, 7, and Michael John Simpson, 34, were found after police responded to a wreck near the home shortly after 6 a.m.

Police say Suzanna Simpson crashed a truck less than 300 yards away from the scene shortly after the incident. She was taken to the hospital for her injuries.

She is charged with two counts of murder, one count of attempted murder and possession of a firearm during a violent crime.

According to a warrant, Simpson admitted what she did to emergency personnel.

“Ok, ok, I shot my whole family,” she said to an EMS responder, according to the warrant.

She also gave details to a Greenville Memorial Hospital nurse the warrant claimed.

“I shot my kids then my husband and tried to shoot myself several times but couldn’t do it,” she said, according to the warrant.

Chief Deputy Creed Hashe said the investigation began shortly after police responded to the wreck.

“The vehicle was registered to the people who live at 307 Cherokee Trail,” Hashe continued. “The deputies came to the house to follow up on the traffic accident, at which time they learned of a shooting.”

Hashe said the two children were found inside, along with Simpson’s husband.

“They located two victims that were deceased at the scene,” Hashe said. “There was another person who had wounds consistent with gunshots. That person was transported to the hospital where they are in critical/life threatening condition.”

Both children were students at Dacusville Elementary.

The incident remains under investigation.
