CLEMSON — Join the South Carolina Botanical Garden on May 11 at 6 p.m. for Moonlight & Magnolias Gala ~ Enchanted Gardens.

This elegant casual evening of dinner and entertainment will help raise funds for the continued maintenance, growth and sustainability of the Garden.

Moonlight Magnolias will take place at the Fran Hanson Discovery Center, the former Southern Living Showcase Home located in the Garden. The evening will include a silent auction, live entertainment, dinner, cocktails and the opportunity to learn about the new and ongoing garden projects enriching our community. Attire for the evening will be elegant casual. More information about the event, as well as instructions to purchase tickets, is available at www.clemson.edu/scbg.

“This is a celebration of our Friends, our staff and our natural heritage that shine so brightly in Your Garden,” said Patrick McMillan, director of the garden. “The SCBG has long been a well-kept secret; I hope you will join us in celebrating the transformations and growth that are taking our Garden out onto the world stage.”

McMillan, who also leads a team in PBS-TV nature documentaries, is directing changes in the garden like the addition of a 40-plus acre Heritage trail . The $250,000 investment to date demonstrates native plants and ecosystems of the South Carolina mountains and Piedmont. Plans will take the visual narrative to similar exhibits of Pee Dee and coastal soils, rocks, hydrology and plants.

McMillan believes the changes will help make the garden more relevant as a state botanical display.

Gala tickets are available for $75 each and whole-table reservations are also available. To purchase tickets please visit www.clemson.edu/scbg and click on the Moonlight and Magnolias image. Tickets are in limited supply and tables are selling out quickly so purchase your tickets soon.

“Guests at the Gala should be aware that this evening will not only be enchanting, but their ticket purchases will allow for the Garden to reach an eminent status within the Southeast, thereby bringing honor and awareness to the state of South Carolina,” added McMillan.

The South Carolina Botanical Garden is located on the Clemson University campus at the intersection of Highway 76 and Perimeter Road. The Garden encompasses 295 acres of display gardens, nature trails, woodlands and streams, and is open year-round from dawn to dusk, free of charge. The Garden is partially supported by the state of South Carolina via Clemson University, but relies on donations, memberships and proceeds from special events and educational events to fund operating expenses.
