EASLEY — The Baptist Easley Board of Directors announced today that Michael L. Batchelor has been

named as CEO of Baptist Easley Hospital.

“I am pleased to announce the selection of Michael Batchelor,” said Greg Rusnak, Board Chairman. “Michael comes to us with over 20 years of healthcare experience, including progressive leadership in health system and operational management, business development, and team building. While there were several qualified candidates interviewed, the Board was impressed with both Michael’s experience and his commitment to the Easley community.”

The Baptist Easley Board of Directors, working with Atlanta-based search firm Witt-Kieffer, conducted a national search for the candidate from an initial pool of 188 applications. After personal interviews, the consulting firm chose six candidates to be interviewed by the Executive/Governance Committee of the Board. From those six candidates, three finalists were selected to spend two days (individually) being interviewed by senior leaders, Board members, representatives from the Medical Executive Committee, the BEH Foundation Board, and the community, along with the CEO’s from Greenville Hospital System University Medical Center, Palmetto Health System, and Baptist Easley Hospital. After review, the Board selected Batchelor at its January meeting.

Batchelor comes to Baptist Easley from Greenville Hospital System (GHS) where he has served as President, North Greenville Campus since 2005. Prior to that he was Administrator, Clinical/Non-Clinical Support Services at GHS from 2001-2005. Starting his career as a Combat Field Medic in 1988 with the U.S. Army, Batchelor served several posts in the U.S. and Germany. He holds a master’s degree in Health Care Management from Troy State University, a bachelor’s degree from the University of Maryland, and associate’s degrees from the University of South Carolina. He is a graduate of both Leadership Greenville and Furman University’s Riley Institute for Diversity and holds a Green Belt/Black Belt Lean Six Sigma Certification. He is also a Licensed Practical Nurse.

Batchelor is expected to join Baptist Easley on March 1.

Retiring CEO Roddey E. Gettys, III, has served Baptist Easley Hospital for 43 years. According to Rusnak, “The Board believes that Michael will be able to build upon the culture and legacy that Roddey leaves behind and lead Baptist Easley into a new phase of growth.”

Oconee County - The Oconee Humane Society will be hosting two mega adoption events at area PetSmarts on Saturday, June 22. One will be at the Seneca PetSmart in the Applewood Shopping Center on Highway 123 from 12 noon to 4:00 p.m. It will be sponsored by the Seneca Foothills Elks Lodge #2822. The other with be held at the Easley PetSmart next to Walmart on Highway 123 from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m.

Cats and dogs and puppies and kittens will be available at both locations. Cats and kittens will be inside the stores while dogs and puppies will be outside (weather permitting). All animals are microchipped, spayed or neutered, dewormed and will have age appropriate vaccinations. Dogs over 6 months of age are heartworm tested negative, and cats are tested feline leukemia negative. All animals are also eligible for a free one-month veterinary insurance coverage.

Additionally, PetSmart offers each adopter a free “goody bag” which includes coupons valued at $200.

Cash or check payments for adoption fees can be made at either store, and the Seneca location can also accept credit cards.

Oconee Humane Society always has cats and kittens available in the Seneca PetSmart’s adoption room, so if you’re not in the market for a new cat now, keep these cats in mind when you are ready to adopt. Both dogs and cats are always available at the shelter on Sandifer Blvd., and all of these animals are listed on the OHS website.

If you can’t adopt but would like to help, donations would be appreciated. Ask about the foster program and other volunteer opportunities at the shelter or special events. For additional information, please visit oconeehumane.org
