PICKENS COUNTY – There will be some changes in the voting process for Pickens County voters starting this year.

According to the Pickens County Registration and Elections Commission, Act R54 of 2011, also known as the Photo ID Bill went into effect on Jan. 1, 2013.

“The act requires that voters will be responsible with providing one of five forms of photo identification when they go to vote whether it be a South Carolina driver’s license, an ID card issued by the Department of Motor Vehicles, a voter registration card with a photo on it, a federal military ID, or a U.S. Passport. They have to provide one of those five things when they got to vote,” said Rodney Allen, director of the Pickens County Registration and Elections Commission. “In other words, they will not be able to show up with a non-photo voter registration card as they have in the past.”

The elections commission will conduct two Voter Photo ID Seminars beginning on Feb. 5, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and again on Thursday Feb. 7, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

”The people that do not have a photo ID can get one free of charge, and the easiest place to do that is at our office. A person who is already registered and has a voter registration card and wants to get a photo ID, can come into our office, tell us their name, tell us their date of birth, the last four digits of their social security number, and we will take their photo and issue them a voter registration card with their photo on it,” said Allen.

The seminars will take place in the auditorium of the Pickens County Administration Facility at 222 McDaniel Ave B-9 Pickens, S.C. 29671.
