CLEMSON—Clemson police say a skateboarder was hit by oncoming traffic on Tuesday afternoon and is now being treated at a local hospital.
Clemson authorities say 20-year old Jacob Chase Morris was hit at approximately 1:19 p.m. Authorities Jim H. Payne was driving his 2006 Honda mini-van when he struck Morris.
Morris was transported to the hospital by EMS. He is currently in neuro-intensive care for a head injury at AnMed Health Medical Center in Anderson.
Clemson City Police say they received a 911 call stating a pedestrian on a skateboard was hit by a vehicle on Elm Street, and officers responded to find Morris on the side of the roadway with injuries.
“The pedestrian was on his skateboard exiting from 250 Elm Street (Riverbanks Commons) and the driver of the vehicle was traveling west on Elm Street when the pedestrian on the skateboard rode in the path of the vehicle,” stated Clemson Police in release.
An incident report stated. “(The driver) hit something, but it happened so fast he was unaware what he had hit until he stopped an exited the vehicle.
The accident is still under investigation by the Clemson Police Department’s Reconstruction Unit and the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
The victim was not a Clemson University student.
