Escaped stockade inmate back in jail

PICKENS — The Pickens County Sheriff’s Office arrested James Christopher Townsend on Wednesday afternoon following an anonymous tip that he was at a residence in the Easley community.Deputies located Townsend around 12:45 p.m. at a residence on Bakerville Road at which time he was taken into custody without incident.Efforts to locate Townsend have been ongoing since the discovery of his escape by Stockade authorities following an evening count of all inmates on July 3. Townsend was serving a sentence for failure to pay child support and had been held at the Stockade since June 2. The Pickens County Stockade is located at #186 Prison Camp Road in Pickens.

Oconee County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Charles Mulwee was among a group of volunteers who received special recognition during a breakfast held April 9 and sponsored by Blue Ridge Elementary School in Seneca.
