ANDERSON COUNTY – A man living in Easley has been cited in the Sunday morning traffic death of his friend after the vehicle they were riding in crashed into a guardrail and was then struck by a second car.

Alfredo Rodriguez, 24, has been charged with leaving the scene of an accident with property damage, driving too fast for conditions, and having no driver’s license, said Lance Cpl. Kathy Hiles with the S.C. Highway Patrol.

Francisco Larios-Cerecedo, of 707 Lake Road, in Easley, was pronounced dead at the scene shortly after the 2:10 a.m. wreck, Anderson County Coroner Greg Shore said.

The 40-year-old man died of blunt force trauma after he left the car he was a passenger in and was struck by an oncoming second vehicle, Shore said.

A second passenger of the vehicle was uninjured, he said.

According to Cpl. Brian McDougald, with the highway patrol, Rodriguez was driving a 1996 Lincoln, registered to Larios-Cerecedo, on Pickens Drive, in Anderson County, when he failed to stop at the traffic sign at the intersection of S.C. 88. The Lincoln crossed the roadway and struck a guardrail, he said.

The driver and two passengers got out of the vehicle to inspect the damage to the car, he said.

A second vehicle, a 2003 Kia SUV, was traveling west on S.C. 88, initially stuck the Lincoln and then hit Larios-Cerecedo, who was standing in the roadway, McDougald said.

Michael Gravely, 31, of Liberty, the driver of the Kia, was transported to Greenville Memorial Hospital with non-life threatening injuries, he said.

Gravely was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident, he said.

McDougald said the weather conditions were poor, and visibility was hindered by fog and sporadic rain.

Rodriguez, who told troopers he was in a nearby field when they arrived at the scene of the accident, and who was later admitted to a local hospital for head injuries, was given the traffic citations the following day after he contacted law enforcement, Hiles said.

The three men had attended a family social gathering and was returning to Easley when the accident occurred, Shore said.
