A Central man turned himself in after he was accused of stealing batteries from the county's Liberty-area recycling center.

Robby Douglas Brewer, 42, of 817 Norris Hwy, turned himself in Monday at the Law Enforcement Center after a sheriff's deputy advised him to do so.

Brewer has been charged with simple larceny, according to a Pickens County Sheriff's Office warrant.

On Oct. 8, county solid waste employees noticed Brewer placing items into his car while parked in the recycled battery storage area, said the incident report.

Brewer drove his car around the center's scales before exiting, the report said.

Employees recognized Brewer as a former inmate who had been employed at the center, the report said.

The batteries were valued at $45 each, the report said.
