Two Easley juveniles, on a 10-year-old white male and an 11-year-old black male have been arrested and charged with second-degree burglary, second-degree arson and malicious damage to real property in connection with a house fire last Saturday at 304 Elmwood Street in Easley, according to a news release and incident report by the Pickens Sheriff's Office.
Sheriff's Office arson investigators were called in after members of the Easley Fire Department suppressed the flames and determined that the fire did not appear to be accidental in nature.
A joint investigation by the Fire Department and the Sheriff's Office resulted in the arrest of the two juveniles, whose names are not released because of their ages. Both were charged and released to the custody of their parents pending a Family Court Hearing on the charges.
According to Pickens County Assistant Sheriff Tim Morgan, the suspects allegedly used a barbecue-type lighter to set the blaze.
Investigators determined that they had been in the residence on earlier occasions and had gained entry by breaking a window and had also allegedly painted graffiti on the walls on one of those occasions using unopened paint cans left by the homeowner, according to the incident report.
Morgan also noted that investigators had had contact with the two juveniles on prior occasions, which led to determining their involvement in the fire.
Liberty man charged
A 30-year-old Liberty man has been arrested and charged with second-degree criminal sexual conduct involving multiple incidents with a 12-year-old boy, according to a news release from the Pickens County Sheriff's Office.
Jeremy James Turner of 104 Dustin Drive, Liberty, faces multiple charges stemming from his alleged abuse of a live-in girlfriend's son, according to a news release and warrants.
According to warrants, Turner allegedly committed sexual batter on the victim more than 20 times over a one-month period beginning in March.
The warrants further allege that turner used his influence over the child to commit the acts.
"The defendant was, at the time, the live-in boyfriend of the child's mother," the warrants allege.
Turner remained at the Pickens County Detention Center Tuesday pending a $20,000 surety bond, officials said.
