PICKENS COUNTY - Pressured by paperwork? Confused by calculators? Dismayed by deductions?
The Pickens County Library System is here to help.
Once again the Library System will be hosting volunteers to help prepare and file tax returns.
"This is our third year as a volunteer income tax assistance site," Outreach Services Supervisor Jennifer Crenshaw said.
The library partners with Clemson University's School of Business and Behavioral Science, which provides and trains the volunteers.
"They answer questions as well as file returns," Crenshaw said.
The service is open to those with an income of $40,000 or below, she said.
The service began Feb. 12 and runs through April 8. Services are by appointment only.
Easley's Hampton Memorial Library will host the volunteers from 5-8 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Call 850-7077.
"For those that need weekend hours," Crenshaw said, the Central-Clemson branch will host volunteers from 9 a.m.-noon on Saturdays. Call 639-2711.
Those having their taxes done should come prepared with their 2006 return, photo I.D., Social Security cards for themselves, spouses and dependents appearing on the new return and bank account information for electronic filing.
"They can file federal and state tax returns electronically and get returns back in as little as nine days," Crenshaw said.
Additionally, those interested should bring all income documents, including:
* W-2s;
* 10-99s;
* education documentation including tuition or student loan information;
* daycare provider information including the name of provider, address and tax number; and
* documentation for any itemized deductions.
Volunteers cannot complete forms for certain types of income including self-employment income, foreign income, military income, rental income, farm income, adoption credits, and sale of property, such a home or stocks.
For more information, call 850-7077.
