NORRIS - At their meeting of Monday, March 10, the Norris Town Council made spring cleaning their priority for the next month, in unanimous vote.
The council's main focus will be cleaning up trash on Hwy. 93 and Hwy. 137, between April 19 and 26. During that time, residents of the town will also be encouraged to clean-up trash along their streets and in their neighborhoods.
The town will provide a dumpster for everyone to place yard clippings and trash for disposal. The council hopes all 400-plus homeowners in the town will do their part during the April Spring Cleaning.
Also discussed at the meeting was whether or not the council should continue contract privately for sanitation and landscaping services or add employees to the town's payroll to do the job. The discussion focused on the cost savings of the alternative. Some councilmen expressed if the town bought the needed equipment up-front and hired the employees, that would drive the cost up initially, but after those initial purchases, it would be less expensive each year.
The council did not vote on this issue, and plans to discuss it further at a later date.
