Pickens - Odie Gillespie, 81, of 598 North Glassy Mountain Road and husband of Betty Simmons Gillespie, died Tuesday August 5, 2008.

Mr. Gillespie was born in Pickens County, a son of the late Sam and Elsie Chastain Gillespie. Mr. Gillespie was retired from Blue Ridge Electric Cooperative as a mapping engineer and was a member of Griffin Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife Betty Simmons Gillespie, sons Tommy Gillespie (Joyce) of Pickens and Kenneth Gillespie (Judy)of Central, and a daughter Joan McCoy of Rock Hill. Mr. Gillespie is also survived by a brother Cecil Gillespie of Liberty, 6 grandchildren, Candy Cure, Bridget Derry, Charles McCoy, Kelley Reid, Barry McCoy, and Heather Simmons and 7 great grandchildren, Bailey Derry, Bryson Derry, Paige McCoy, Alexis McCoy, Kalen Cure, Ansley Reid, and Braden Simmons.

Funeral services will be conducted 4 PM Thursday in the Chapel of Dillard Funeral Home with The reverend Mark Bernshausen and Dr. Buddy Moore officiating. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park and Gardens.

The family will receive friends from 2 - 3:45 PM Thursday at the funeral home.
