“East Pickens Celebrates the Fourth” is an annual event for East Pickens Baptist Church — and everybody’s invited to come celebrate Independence Day on Main Street July 4.
Some activities including rides will begin at 2 p.m., according to Sandy Tinsley with East Pickens Baptist Church.
“The rides begin at 2 p.m.,” she said. “We’ll start selling some drinks then, and begin giving out free snowcones as well.”
“At five o’clock, we’ll start the Main Event,” Tinsley continued. “We’ll have music onstage, face painting and some type of craft activity in the kids’ area. The Parkette’s doing hot dogs, chicken sandwiches and barbecue. We’ll have Brewster’s Ice Cream and funnel cakes. We’ll probably have some other food vendors there as well.”
There’s no admission fee to the event, and attendees can purchase a wrist band granting access to the rides for $5, Tinsley said.
“It’s $5 per person,” she said. “You can ride the rides as many times as you want.”
The rides usually shut down around 9:30 p.m, and the Upstate’s biggest fireworks display begins at 10 p.m.
The City of Pickens provides the fireworks every year, Tinsley said.
Music will be providing by the East Pickens Baptist Church music ministries, including different bands and the church choir, Tinsley said.
Main Street will be closed from Highway 178 at the Courthouse to First Baptist Church, but Highway 8 access and access to Ann Street will still be open, she said.
This summer’s event marks the 13th year the church has been putting on “East Pickens Celebrates the Fourth.”
The event was originally held on the land where the church now stands on Highway 8. It moved across the road to the Pickens YMCA for several years, and has been held on Main Street for about five years, Tinsley said.
