Northern California headed to BLWS

BREMERTON, Wash – It came down to a California showdown as Northern California faced Southern California in the finals for the Western Regional for the Big League World Series.

Northern California won 2-1 to earn the spot in the BLWS.

Northern California had earned their way into the championship by defeating Arizona 7-2 in the semifinals. Southern California defeated Hawaii in the other semi-final 5-0.

California District 45, hailing from the towns of Hayward, Union City and Castro Valley is the first Northern California team to reach the Big League World Series in Easley. Washington was the U.S. West representative in 2002, but the other nine years a team from Southern California was won the regional. Six times Thousand Oaks, Calif., has been the U.S. representative.

Northern California will play Rushton, La., the U.S. Southwest representative, at 4 p.m. on Field 3 Wednesday in the opening game for the 2011 BLWS.
