“When our students and their families first walk into our beautiful new school, we want them to have a positive experience,” said Lori Gwinn, principal. “We want to be unpacked and organized, so we’re adjusting our registration schedule. Our staff and the district staff will have a little extra time to make sure we’re ready to welcome everyone.”
Registration will now be held on Saturday, August 27 and the afternoon of Sunday, August 28. Seniors, juniors and sophomores will register from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 27. Freshmen will register on Sunday, August 28 from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Makeup registration will be Monday, August 29 from 12:00 noon to 6:00 p.m. Gwinn said, “Our staff is excited about the move and getting settled. We’re looking forward to having our students and families come in, get schedules and find their classrooms next Saturday or Sunday afternoon.”
The current Liberty High School has closed for general business. Phone and Internet service to the building on Summit Drive are intermittent. Much of the furniture and equipment has been moved to other schools.
Remaining furniture and equipment will be sold at auction on Saturday, August 20 beginning at 9:01 a.m.
Current plans are to open the new Liberty High School on Friday, August 26 at noon.
If students or parents have pressing issues during the interim, Mrs. Gwinn and the administrative staff will be available by email – lorigwinn@pickens.k12.sc.us.
“We will respond if someone has a significant issue,” said Gwinn. “We will, however, need extra time to answer since our technology is not fully functional yet. I know that students and parents understand that we will continue doing our very best, even though we will not be available in person.”
