EASLEY—Easley residents and volleyball enthusiasts from across the upstate took to the courts during a two-day volleyball clinic at the Larry Bagwell Gymnasium last week.
The event, conducted by Pat Powers, lasted from June, 20 to June, 21, and provided guided lessons for those in attendance.
Powers, a 1984 Olympic Gold Medalist in volleyball, travels across the United States holding volleyball clinics and camps.
The “Easley Side Out Club” is a newly formed non-profit organization that is dedicated to promoting volleyball in the city of Easley by holding clinics and fundraisers.
“Having an Olympic Gold Medalist like Pat Powers come and share his knowledge in Easley provides a unique and valuable learning experience,” said Kim Valentin, President of the “Easley Side Out Club”.
The event saw 80 participants attend the clinic from cities as far away as Nashville, Tennessee and Hickory, North Carolina.
Assistant coaches from Limestone College, Anderson University, and North Greenville attended the clinic, not only offer their own expertise, but also to learn from an Olympic Gold Medalist.
The club will be putting on an outdoor sand volleyball tournament on July 21.
A fee of $45 will be charged to each three member team, juniors only 17 and under. The teams will be divided into two age group; 15 and up, and 14 and under.
There will be concessions and an opportunity to purchase a membership into the organization.
