PICKENS – A judge set bond Friday at $100,000 for a Pickens woman charged in her grandson’s death.

Circuit Judge Eddie Welmaker set the bail for Donna Phillips, 52, of 142 Ivey Hayes Road, after her attorney made a request that she be released on her own recognizance.

Phillips participated in the bond hearing via closed-circuit TV.

She asked the judge to be released because of medical problems and because she takes care of her father.

According to officials with the Pickens County Coroner’s Office, 22-month-old Jaidon Morris died in March 2008 from a hydrocodone overdose.

The child was in the care of his father, Jamie Edward Morris, at the time, according to the incident report.

He was returned to his mother on the evening of March 16, the report states.

After being returned to his mother, the child was discovered “unconscious and not breathing.”

The child was taken to Palmetto Health Baptist Easley, and the Sheriff’s Office was notified around 11:40 a.m. on March 17.

Phillips was indicted in December 2008 by a Pickens County grand jury on one count of homicide by child abuse.

Morris, 24, was indicted with aiding and abetting homicide by child abuse.

His bail has been set at $85,000.
