PICKENS — Two Pickens residents have been charged with stealing a local man’s electric wheelchair and food stamp card.
Lance Todd Campos, 34, of 111 City Lake Road, and Sarah Elizabeth Campos, 32, of 182 City Lake Road, were arrested by Pickens County Sheriff’s Deputies last week.
Warrants on file with the Sheriff’s Office allege that Lance Campos, together with Sarah
Campos, steal an electric wheelchair valued at $4,700 from the man’s residence on October 21, 2008.
That chair was later recovered from a local pawn shop, warrants state.
Warrants also allege that Sara Campos illegally applied for a food stamps card in the man’s name and then used that food stamp EBT card without his knowledge to pay for purchases at a local grocery store over a period of several months last year.
In December 2008, Department of Social Services officials alerted Sheriff’s Deputies that an elderly man’s caretaker may have been taking advantage of him, a Sheriff’s Office release stated.
An investigation uncovered that Sarah Campos had been the man’s caretaker since February of last year.
Sarah Campos has been charged with forgery, grand larceny, exploitation of a vulnerable adult, and twelve counts of Financial Transaction Card Crime Act violations.
Lance Campos has been charged with one count of grand larceny.
