ANDERSON COUNTY- As part of a tour of small businesses, U.S. Sen. Jim DeMint, was in Anderson County on Monday to visit Watson Engineering.
According to the Small Business Administration, a small business is defined as a business with less than 500 employees, Watson Engineering currently employs just over 200 men and women.
“We are focusing on small business through the end of the year. We need a business friendly environment, and that is not taking a position of business versus workers or business versus education,” said DeMint. “All the tax revenue we have comes from successful business, and most of it, is small business. We just wanted to sit down with a small business, one that is growing and confirm again what we need to do as a community, as a state and as a country to create prosperity again. Anderson has really come around and that is going to make a difference.”
Watson Engineering’s manufacturing capabilities include laser cutting, robotic welding, stampings, and design.
“Having a growing company, we have exceeded the expectations. It is good for him (DeMint) to come by, it’s good for the employees to see and hear about it and hopefully it will stimulate the rest of the business and keep it going,” said founder of Watson Engineering, Chuck Watson.
Anderson County officials feel that small businesses are crucial to the American economy.
“Watson Engineering is a rapidly growing technical company. They are doing a lot of the right things the right way. They are the backbone of the U.S. economy and that is a way for us to get back to where we were 10 years ago in manufacturing and they are leading the way in doing that,” said Burriss Nelson, Director of the Anderson County Economic Development.
District six in Anderson County is experiencing growth on many levels of business.
“We always welcome the senator to come look at district six of Anderson County. We have had large industry in our part of the county and we have had small business additions. Anderson County, District Six, is doing its part to get America back on the economic high road,” said Anderson County Councilmember, Ken Waters.
