MCCORMACK — An Easley woman died and her husband was critically injured Saturday when the motorcycle they were riding left the roadway and overturned in McCormack County.

Nancy White, 55, of Easley, died at the scene from multiple trauma after being thrown from the 1999 Harley Davidson motorcycle on which she was a passenger, McCormack County Coroner Faye Puckett said.

Mrs. White was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident, which occurred just before Noon, she said.

Her husband, Barry J. White, 52, also of Easley, was not wearing a helmet and was airlifted to the Medical College of Georgia, where he is being treated for critical injuries, she said.

According to Lance Corporal Scot Edgeworth , of the S.C. Highway Patrol, the motorcycle driven by White was traveling north on S.C. 7 and was about seven miles outside the municipality of McCormack when he lost control of the vehicle in a curve.

The motorcycle left the roadway and overturned several times, throwing White and his wife from the vehicle, he said.

Puckett said residents in the surrounding communities in McCormack County are saddened by the tragic death of Mrs. White.

“This is such a tragedy,” she said. “We didn’t know the Whites, but this is a small community, much like Easley, I suppose, where everyone knows everyone else.

“We are all saddened by the death of Mrs. White, and we are all praying for Mr. White,” Puckett said. “They were both young, and we are thinking about their families.”

The Whites were traveling with a small group of motorcycle riders when the accident happened, she said.
