EASLEY— Tree limbs fell across power lines a block from the Kimberly Hampton Library late Monday afternoon, knocking out power to the library and several businesses on U.S. 123 Bypass.

A spokesman for Easley combined utilities said that limbs being cut in a tree removal along Mae Avenue fell across a main line through the neighborhood. “Now we’re going to have to get it back up.”

The mishap knocked out power to the library, forcing officials there to close the facility. One patron said he a was disappointed because it appeared the library would be closed the rest of the night and workers had gone home.

A group of Girl Scouts that planned to meet there had to find other accommodations for heir meeting.

The combined utilities spokesman did not know at 5:30 p.m. how long repairs might take.

In addition to the library, power was knocked out at Wendy’s and Burger King Restaurants and Lowe’s Home Improvement. Lowe’s made use of a generator to provide electricity.
