PICKENS – Bertrand William Trotter, 87, husband of Katie Grant Trotter, passed from this life Friday, November 9, 2012 surrounded by his loving family.
Bert was born in Pickens County, a son of the late Walter and Dora Elizabeth Leslie Trotter. He was retired from Grant Hardwood Lumber Co. in Pickens and was a member of Porter’s Chapel United Methodist Church. At Porter’s Chapel, Bert was a member of the Tommy Chastain Sunday School Class, served on the Administrative Board for many years and served as a choir member. He also helped build the fellowship building in the 1980’s.
Bert was a U. S Army veteran of World War II where he was wounded in France and awarded two Purple Hearts for injuries received. He was a private pilot for many years and was also an avid Atlanta Braves fan.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Katie, of the home, daughters, Debbie Ellenburg (Wayne) and Linda Bowie (John) all of Pickens, grandchildren, Anna Davis (Rick), Dirk Ellenburg (Ashley), and Alex Bowie and a great granddaughter, Sydney Elizabeth Davis. Also surviving is a sister, Frances Harrison of Powdersville and a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Bert was preceded in death by brothers, O. V., Compton, Ocie, and Olin Trotter.
Funeral services will be conducted 2 PM Tuesday in the chapel of Dillard Funeral Home with The Reverend Richard Waldrep officiating. Burial will follow at Porter’s Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery with Military Honors.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM Monday at Dillard Funeral Home in Pickens.
Nieces and nephews are asked to serve as Escort of Honor.
